Save lives by thinning wildfire evacuation routes
In 2018, the Camp Fire in Paradise, CA burned 153,336 acres of lush forest, killing 85 people, destroying 18,000 structures and causing an estimated $16.5 billion in damages. Many of those people died stuck in traffic jams trying to flee.
Conifer Rotary is trying to prevent that from happening here by thinning trees on the side of our major evacuation routes. This is where 30,000 residents and all of our daily hikers, bicyclists and other visitors from the city will need to escape the EXPECTED wildfire. Please join us on Rotary Epic Day of Service by working on Hwy 73, the road between Conifer and Evergreen. Every single person west of Hwy 73 can only leave on Hwy 73. It will be a traffic jam. But we can help save lives by thinning trees on the side of the road. This work also widens the fuel break that is the road, and gives our firefighters a better chance of stopping a wildfire.
Much of the work is hauling branches, so you don’t need to be skilled. But we will need experienced tree fellers, too, along with people with trucks and trailers to haul branches to the slash yard. Please join us – it’s fun!
MORE DATES! We’ll be doing more wildfire thinning as the summer progresses so if you would like to join us on a different day, just send an email with your contact information to coniferrotarywildfire@gmail.com to get on the mailing list for dates and details.
