The New London Rotary Club’s Epic Day of Service. May 9, 2026

The New London Rotary Club plans service projects that focus on environmental sustainability. Part of the group's mission is to enhance the capacity of communities to support natural resource management and discussion about supporting our environment.

Members of the community can also do their part by participating in the club’s Shredding Day that takes place on Saturday, May 9, 9:00- 12:00 at Lotus New London, 345 Broad St. New London. Co-sponsors are Secor Auto Center and Gordon's Yellow Front Wines & Liquors.

The shredded material collected on shredding day will be 100% recycled. This includes full-scale repulping into consumer-grade content products, such as light-grade cardboard packages, pizza boxes, paper towel rolls, and low-grade paper (newspapers and thermal receipts). There is even a screen provided so participants can watch their materials being shredded.

The cost for shredding is a donation of $10 per box (copy paper size) or small bag, $15 medium containers and $40 large containers/bins. The event takes place rain or shine. Proceeds from this event benefit Camp Rotary, a summer event for New London Middle School students, NLRC Little Free Libraries and other New London education opportunities. In addition, the Rotary Club will be collecting nonperishable food items to benefit the New London Food Pantries.

The New London Rotary Club members are creating more ways to bring about positive change and increase impact on an ever-changing environment. Rotary Clubs all over the world are involved in projects that provide clean water and fight diseases such as polio eradication.

Recycling your old documents is an environmentally friendly way to dispose of them

Businesses can protect their customers by shredding documents with sensitive information. The process can be helpful for practical reasons as well, freeing up space occupied by records that are no longer needed.

The New London Rotary Club (New London CT) is conducting a shredding and electronics recycling event to promote sustainability and keep our community clean.  This is a great opportunity for our community to safely and securely shred documents and recycle old batteries, computers, TVs, printers, cell phones, etc.  Reaching out to like-minded groups in our region, we are partnering with Secor Auto Group and Gordon Wine & Spirits for the event.  Rotarians will be on hand to handle donations and unload vehicles. Proceeds will benefit Camp Rotary for Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School students (winner of CT Middle School of the year!) over the summer and other educational opportunities for students K-12 in New London.  Donations may also be made for these projects by clicking the donate button.
