Healthy Mind Initiatives: MindTheMends Service Project
Healthy Mind Initiatives will implement MindTheMends, a data-driven mental health screening and wellness program providing free early identification and referral support for underserved children ages 5–21 in Queens, New York.
Approximately 1 in 5 children experience a mental health condition, yet many remain undiagnosed due to limited access, long wait times, and low awareness. Schools often lack structured screening, delaying intervention.
The project integrates a digital screening app with community workshops. Children will undergo standardized screenings for anxiety, depression, ADHD, and behavioral concerns. Workshops will educate students, parents, and educators to reduce stigma and improve recognition. At-risk participants will be referred to local providers, with de-identified data used to track trends and guide outreach.
Volunteers aged 12+ are welcome for the Day of Service and will receive community service certificates. To support this initiative, donations can be made via Zelle: Heritagenyrotary@gmail.com.
