Crutches4Africa Mobility Drive
The Rotary Club of Steamboat Springs, in partnership with UCHealth SportsMed, will host a Medical Mobility Device Drive to collect gently used equipment for donation to Crutches4Africa.org. The drive will take place Friday, May 1, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the UCHealth SportsMed patio area, located at 1024 Central Park Ave., near the hospital. Community members
are encouraged to bring donations and learn more about the Rotary Club and Crutches4Africa.org. For those unable to attend during event hours, a collection container is available outside UCHealth SportsMed for drop-off at any time.
Crutches4Africa.org was founded by David Talbot, a Denver-based polio survivor and Rotarian. After noticing lightly used mobility devices being discarded or left unused, Talbot launched the organization to repurpose and distribute this equipment to people in need around the world—free
of charge. To date, Crutches4Africa.org has provided more than 224,000 mobility devices to recipients in 17 African countries and 11 additional countries worldwide. These donations not only improve individual mobility but also enhance quality of life for entire families. While the devices themselves are donated, transportation costs remain significant. Those
interested in supporting the effort financially can learn more by visiting the Crutches4Africa.org website.
Accepted items include: crutches, ankle boots, walkers, wheelchairs, canes, leg and knee braces, prosthetic legs, air casts, baby jogging strollers, bicycle trailers, and rollators.
