Epic Day of Service Kelowna Rotary Marsh Clean Up
District 5060- Area 5 and 6 Kelowna Rotary Clubs have the opportunity to volunteer to help clean up the Downtown Waterfront-Rotary Marsh area. Partnering with the City of Kelowna environment/parks team we plan to pull invasive plants, landscape non-sensitive areas and generally beautify the trails and boardwalk area for our community and visitors. We are very proud of this natural waterfront area project that was developed 1994.
The Rotary Marsh officially opened in 1995, with a special ceremony led by the provincial Minister of Forests. Rotary Club members initially took care of the marsh, and in 1998, the City of Kelowna’s Parks Department took over maintenance. The marsh is now home to at-risk wildlife in British Columbia, including the painted turtle and great blue heron, as well as providing security and rearing habitat for fish, and nesting areas for osprey.
