Rotary Clubs of Staten Island Epic Day of Service
Members and volunteers from all five (5) of Staten Island's Rotary Clubs (Gateway, Mid-Island, North Shore, Staten Island, and South Shore) will come together for a hands-on community beautification and environmental stewardship project at Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden as part of Rotary’s Epic Day of Service.
Volunteers of all ages will assist with a variety of landscaping, planting, and revitalization projects throughout the grounds. Projects have been organized to allow both family-friendly participation opportunities and adult-only work areas.
Activities include:
Adults Only Projects
- Installing landscape fabric and mulching a new pathway area around Building P
- Removing invasive weeds and clearing a juniper area near the south meadow
Projects for Adults & Youth Volunteers
- Transplanting sunflowers along the farm fence line
- Planting pollinators along the eastern farm fence line
- Revitalizing insect hotels using bundled Japanese knotweed reeds
- Spreading woodchips along the south meadow parking lot
- Mulching around the corner yew
- Creating tree rings along Melville Extension
- Completing mulching around a substantial yew near Chapel Road and Gazebo Road
This project supports environmental sustainability, beautification of shared community spaces, and hands-on volunteerism for Rotarians, families, and community partners.
